What is Composite Geogrid

Composite geogrid refers to a product made using fiberglass geogrid and geotextile materials. It ensures surfaces and roads are not easily damaged by external environmental conditions and reduces the construction time required.

It is mainly made for reinforcement applications and soil stabilization and serves the function of stabilizing drainage, filtration, and reinforcement. The composite geogrid material can withstand high temperatures and has anti-cracking fatigue thus ensuring durability of surfaces.

Benefits of Composite Geogrid

Some of the benefits of composite geogrid include:

High tensile strength

Composite geogrid can spread and concentrate stress thus improving friction and minimizing resistance. This will ensure that the soil is protected from damage by any external elements and forces.

Save projects budgets

During engineering applications, you can lay out composite geogrid at once thus saving on several additional costs.

Easy to install

The installation process of composite geogrid is quick and very easy. This will save on the time required to complete construction projects.

Extended road service life

Composite geogrid has chemical resistance and long-term durability which reduces the need for maintenance of the constructed infrastructure.

Material Composition of Geogrid

Composite geogrid comprises geogrid and geotextile, or geogrid and geomembrane. Furthermore, you may have other material combination for better performance. Other materials used in the composition include steel cables, deformed plastic sheets, or steel anchors.

Depending on the types of geomembranes, geogrids are made using high-density polyethylene and are welded together to make an impervious membrane. By constructing geotextile with composite geogrid material, it is possible to improve its strength and increase elongation.

How Geogrid Composite is Made

· Extrusion

In the extrusion method, the material which is a flat polymeric sheet is pushed through a die of the desired cross-section. Once this is done, holes of desired sizes are created by punching into the flat sheet to create apertures.

· Weaving or knitting

The geogrid composite is manufactured by knitting together fibrous yarns. It can form openings between the flexible joints and make a geogrid composite with high resistance to tension.

· Welding and extrusion

Geogrid composite is made by extrusion of ribs by passing them in rollers. Once this is done, the materials are welded to form apertures.

Types of Composite Geogrid

· PP Biaxial Composite Geogrid

PP biaxial composite geogrid is used in the reinforcement of elements like storage yards, roads, and parking lots. The reinforcing feature is enhanced by increasing resistance in the soil by interlocking it with square ribs.

· Fiberglass Geogrid Composite

Fiberglass geogrid composite comprises glass fiber which is knitted and coated using a special process of coating. The coating helps to protect the fiberglass therefore improving its performance.

· Polyester Fiber Geogrid Composite

Polyester fiber geogrid composite has water-permeable and anti-seepage features and is mostly used in the reinforcement of roads. It ensures the elongated lifespan of roads as it is resistant to any cracks.

· Uniaxial Composite geogrid

It has a higher strength in a single direction as compared to the other direction and possesses a planar grid.

· Interaxial composite geogrid

It is a combination of optimized geometry with advanced material properties in a way that improves soil interaction. This ensures that the Interax composite geogrid is flexible.

· Triaxial composite Geogrid

Triaxial composite geogrid offers a lot of stiffness and stability which reduces the costs of installation and enhances its performance. It is manufactured using polypropylene that is punched and made in equilateral and several directions to form apertures that are triangles in shape.

· Filter grid composite geogrid

It combines the functionalities of Interax and Triax composite geogrids to make a stronger composite geogrid in a single product.

Applications of Composite Geogrid

Reinforcement

Reinforcing old concrete pavements to stabilize surfaces.

Subgrade Stabilization

It helps in retaining the construction of walls.

Soil Reinforcement

Composite geogrid is used in geocells and geotextiles for reinforcing the soil.

Fencing Ranches

It can be used as a ranch fence to prevent domestic animals like ducks and chickens from escaping.

Slope Stabilization

You can use it on the riverside as a gabion net.
